NOVEMBER 2025 NEWSLETTER
Mini-Grants Awarded to Winters Teachers
We are delighted to announce that, through the generosity of local donors like YOU, we have awarded 16 mini-grants to teachers in Winters schools for enrichment activities and materials. The grants range up to $2,000 each and total more than $15,500.
Thanks to these grants, kindergarden students will make clay creations with a visiting artist, students in grades 6-8 will create a mosaic mural for their school, and high school students will be able to record tracks in a music production studio. The grants will support several field trips: second graders will explore the UC Davis student farm, fourth graders will go to the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, and fifth graders will visit the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Other grants will fund classroom materials and build school libraries.
According to Rody Boonchouy, Superintendent of Schools, “One of the best things about Winters is how this community shows up for our kids. Each year the Winters Educational Foundation steps up in a big way through teacher mini-grants—helping bring field trips to life, add art and science projects to classrooms, and give students hands-on experiences they’ll never forget.”

Students at Shirley Rominger Intermediate School work in the school garden, funded with a WEF Mini-Grant.

In Memoriam
The Winters Education Foundation is sad to announce the passing of Board Member Russ Lester. WEF, and the Winters community, lost a giant of a man who was a firm believer in the importance of public education and worked tirelessly to support our Winters schools. Serving 20 years on the Winters JUSD Board of Trustees, over 10 years on our WEF board, volunteering and demonstrating equipment at Farm Day and hosting class tours of his ranch, Russ backed up his beliefs with action. WEF offers its sincere condolences to Russ’ family and friends.
